Clinical Pharmacy Challenge

The ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge is a team-based competition. Teams of three students compete against teams from other colleges of pharmacy in a “quiz-bowl” type format.

Each summer, SCCP-Pacific hosts the local Clinical Pharmacy Challenge to allow students to test their clinical knowledge. Teams of three students will compete in 3 rounds to determine who will represent our school at the national competition.

In both the local and national competition, students in teams of 3 will compete in 3 rounds consisting of:

  • A Trivia/Lightning Round (5 min) where students will have to answer up to 15 T/F or multiple choice questions in the following categories:
    • Pharmacology (including mechanism of action, side effects profiles, drug interactions, drug interactions, approved indications, and monitoring parameters)
    • Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics
    • Pharmacogenomics
    • Clinical Pharmacy History
    • Biostatistics
    • Health Outcomes
  • Clinical Case (8 min) where students will be presented with a clinical case of 300 words or less and a series of five one-best-answer questions based on the information given in the case.
  • Jeopardy Style (12 min) where students will have the opportunity to answer multiple choice questions of varying point values in 5 pre-determined categories and may answer as many questions as possible in the allotted time. Potential categories include but may not be limited to:
    • Anticoagulation
    • Antibiotics
    • GI/Liver
    • Cardiovascular Disorders
    • Hematology/Oncology
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Pain
    • Nephrology
    • CNS Disorders
    • Rheumatology
    • and more
